From the seller
Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome.
You are looking at a very nice and somewhat rare Shure Brothers ES616 model mic based on the more common 578 model Omnidyne (omni-directional) dynamic microphone from the 1960's and it comes as a special package which includes the Shure Equalization analyzer original accessories and large case in which to store everything. This was a 1970's / 80's era mic that was factory set at Low impedance and looked identical to the 578 except that it came in the satin chrome finish as where the SM76 was a painted version. This was a very modern design for Shure at the time and has a sleek, clean look to it. This was great for general broadcasting and recording purposes.
This unique mic comes with the original plastic Shure mic case, Shure mic clip, new black foam exterior pop filter for improved sound performance, Equalization analyzer and cables in which to operate. This package was offered by Shure at some point in time but when I say this is a RARE package, that's an understatement. It's first I have ever seen and I'm not sure how many of these units were sold?
Pic # 2 shows this very model and it's basic characteristics in an older Shure catalog I have from 1981.
Pic # 3 shows the actual data sheet for this microphone though it's not included. You're free to make a copy of this to keep in the case however.
The ES615 has an omni-directional pattern with strong output and great for recording purposes as it was designed. I'll be honest that I don't know much about this particular mic as I come across so few of them but it's a quality mic.
The ES615 microphone was short run production Shure microphone manufactured and I'm not quite sure the story behind this mic? This might have been sold for 5 to 10 years before being discontinued.
As you can see in the pictures provided...this ES615 is in excellent condition and I'm nnot sure that it was even ever used? It comes with the original plastic sheath to protect the finish of the mic. Please let the detailed pics be your guide. The Shure label looks perfect and the front screen is free of tarnish or dents. The satin chrome handle is perfect as well. I'm including the new Auray black foam pop filter cover. This helps decrease the dreaded "pops" for improved performance. It fits the mic like a glove and looks great. Physically speaking this ES615 is an easy 10 on a scale of 1 - 10.
The mic itself is appx 8 1/2 inches long X 3/4 inches wide. Very lite weight and easy to hold for prolonged periods of time. The original Shure mic clip is included and just as nice as the mic. It grips the mic firmly and will screw onto any desk or floor stand you have.
The original two cables are included and in perfect condition. The longer cable is 45 feet long and has the two quality Switchcraft XLR connectors. I did clean the mics XLR pins as they were tarnished. They look new and ensure a perfect signal once the cable is attached.
The Shure equalization analyzer is in perfect condition and looks as nice as the mic. Functions perfectly and gives you a wide range of options with the this mic or any other mic you have. It has inputs for Lo or Hi Z depending on the situation and comes with the original plastic sheath as well. There is a perfect 8 foot cable to operate the equalization analyzer.
The massive dark blue plastic Shure mic case is included. It's in excellent condition and a great place to store the mic and other equipment when not in use or while transporting. Will keep your mic free of physical damage. It has two locking mechanisms and a practical carrying handle. The lid closes tightly once locked. It has the original inner foam pad as well to cushion the contents. The case is appx 18 inches X 14 inches X 6 inches.
I do have several period stands for sale if you need one?
A beautiful ES615 worthy of any fine vintage mic collection even if you don't want to actually use it but this mic is ready to go.
