From the seller
The AEA N28 is, without a doubt, one of the best stereo ribbon microphones I’ve ever had the pleasure of hearing. To my ears, it captures all the qualities that make the AEA R88 so special, but in a more compact, high-fidelity-focused package. The result is a beautifully natural, detailed stereo image that retains the warmth, depth, and realism that make ribbon microphones so compelling.
Featuring two matched figure-8 ribbon elements in a fixed Blumlein configuration, the N28 offers a remarkably cohesive stereo image with excellent transient response and an impressive frequency range extending from below 20 Hz to above 20 kHz. Its active design requires 48V phantom power and delivers a maximum SPL of 135 dB, making it a versatile option for a variety of recording applications.
For me, this microphone really shines when recording solo acoustic performances. If you’re looking to capture more than just the sound of a room — if you want to capture the intimacy, nuance, and character of a player and their instrument — the N28 is an incredible tool. It has a way of making a performance feel present and three-dimensional while preserving the natural character of the source.
Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to give this microphone as much recording time as I would have liked, so I’ve decided to pass it along to someone who can put it to its full potential.
Please feel free to reach out with any questions. I’ll be more than happy to answer them!
