From the seller
1 Rack with 4x Vintage 1960s/70s Transformers – Calrec / Chilton / BBC Era
2 racks available, giving you 8 identical transformers in total. I can offer a better price if both racks are purchased together.
Set of 4 vintage transformers, originally used as microphone input transformers (1: 8 ratio ) in a full-discrete vintage mixer from the late 1960s / early 1970s, believed to be Calrec or Chilton / BBC era.
The transformers are mounted in professionally adapted Glensound racks and are currently wired for use as output transformers. They can also be used in reverse by swapping the routing, using the input as output and the output as input.
Excellent for adding weight, colour, saturation and vintage character to the signal. I have used them from the direct outputs of mixers such as my Chilton MK3, Audix 35102 and Glensound MX6/3A, with excellent results.
The amount of saturation/distortion depends on how hard you drive the transformers. They also work very well as a passive DI, giving you a genuine vintage transformer sound.
Please note: in the current output configuration, the signal level drops by approximately 25 dB, which can be compensated by increasing the gain from the source, mixer or audio interface.
A great piece of vintage studio hardware for recording, reamping, saturation, creative processing and DI use.
I can ship internationally. Please send me your full address before buying so I can confirm the exact shipping cost.
The racks are currently in my studio in Lisbon, Portugal, so there are no customs/import taxes for EU buyers. For the UK, I can personally bring the rack to my home in London, so there will also be no customs/import charges.
Sold as-is.
