From the seller

Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome. If you're a singer or broadcaster or just know somebody who is such then this older Shure mic will be a very special gift to yourself or someone you like. This is the somewhat obscure and very desirable Shure 548S model dynamic microphone sold during the 1970's for a limited number of years and was the upgraded version of the more common 545 series model mics. The 545 series was a Unidyne III which was an outstanding mic then and even today but Shure wanted to improve on the design so the Unidyne IV model was introduced and has even better sound characteristics. It was a very expensive studio microphone and so only those who were willing to dig deep into their pockets were willing to buy one. Pic # 2 shows this Unidyne IV series mics and all the variants of the 548. The 548S basically a 548 with the built in lower pistol grip with on / off switch. Pic # 3 shows Led Zeppelin using these very microphones while performing live. These are arguably one of the very best handheld dynamic cardioid mics ever sold by Shure and the styling is very aggressive and mid century. An all metal design with a gorgeous satin chrome finish. Output is 100%. No issues. It comes with the older Atlas LO-2B on / off stand adapter and newer vinyl Shure mic pouch in which to store the contents. The Low Z setting gives the mic a smooth warm tone with an excellent frequency response and perfect for singing or broadcasting as it was designed. These make great snare mics as well. These microphones have risen greatly in value the past few years. This example was very gently used and well stored. It's a nicer example. You'll notice that other sellers here on Ebay and Reverb are asking way more for substandard models of the 548. Don't get ripped off. Buy one that is much nicer and has been thoroughly gone over. All of these older mics need genuine maintenance to sound as they should as they do come with issues from years of use. As you can see in the pictures provided there are typical lite signs of cosmetic wear. The satin chrome lower handle shows no scratches, dents, engravings or fractures. The on / off switch slides smoothly and works just as nice. Just a couple very lite scuff marks and scratches on the bezel of the front grill. The black plastic fittings have no cracks or fractures. Just lite scuff marks. No loose parts. The front screen shows no dents or tarnish and there are no odors. The inner foam liners are perfect too as they were replaced. The new inner foam liners greatly reduces unwanted "pops" from breathing and singing too close to the mic. The XLR pins were cleaned on this mic as well ensuring a perfect signal once the cable is attached. The mic has stripped threads for the stand so I installed the older two piece Atlas LO-2B stand adapter that allows you to remove the mic quickly from your stand without having to unscrew the mic every time you want to remove it. The LO-2B solves that. The LO-2B has just lite wear but works perfectly. Leave the top portion screwed onto the mic and simply attach the lower portion to you stand. It's a very practical set up that you'll really appreciate. The newer black Shure vinyl mic pouch is also included and is a great place to put the mic when not in use as it keeps the mic safe and snug. It shows virtually no wear and the zipper works great. Overall a very nice looking mic that's far above average for a 40 + year old microphone and an easy 8 on a scale of 1 - 10 though many would rate higher. This is truly one of the best sounding Shure dynamic cardioid mics you can buy for the money...top notch! The uniqueness and rarity of this mic will make it a very special piece to own.
