Manley Reference Gold Microphone — Vintage Mullard 12AT7 — Original PSU
£3,500— Offers considered
Selling my Manley Reference Gold large-diaphragm tube condenser microphone, complete with its original power supply.
This is a fantastic high-end studio microphone and one of the most impressive vocal/lead instrument microphones I've owned. It's been extremely well cared for and is fully working.
Serial number: REFGOLDT6672
I purchased the microphone new in 2018 and it has been kept in a professional studio environment.
Vintage Mullard 12AT7 Tube
The microphone has been fitted with a vintage, non-reissue Mullard 12AT7 tube, sourced from a specialist tube dealer.
I specifically chose this tube for its smoother, richer and more colourful character compared with a brighter/cleaner tube presentation.
The tube specialist described its character as follows:
“The vintage (not ‘re-issue’) Mullard 12AT7 has become a very popular choice for getting a smoother, more colorful character out of Manley mics. It sounds forward the low-mids/upper-bass, and smooths the upper-mids. The lower bass is extended but tight. Highs are also extended but mellow, giving you the option to eq in some air (because the detail is certainly there) but they aren't a bright sounding tube. The Mullard imparts a nice sense of depth and rich harmonic overtones.”
This makes the microphone particularly appealing if you're looking for the classic Manley detail and depth, but with a slightly smoother, more dimensional and less clinical top end. Similar to a 251
